In summer 2024, after 8 years in business, Madison Newborn Care began the transition to becoming a true household placement agency.
We no longer employ Newborn Care Specialists directly; instead, we have shifted our approach to assist families in doing all of the initial work necessary to find, select, and hire a qualified specialist themselves. This method empowers families to choose the best fit for their unique needs and preferences.
This makes sense for several reasons:
Hiring a Newborn Care Specialist as a dedicated employee of your household can ultimately save you a significant amount of money in the long run. It is simple math— there is less overhead to manage when you choose this option. Families utilizing Madison Newborn Care’s comprehensive placement process are experiencing an overall cost savings of approximately 10%. This thoughtful approach not only benefits your budget but also ensures quality care for your newborn.
While MNC has always been a trailblazing organization in the realms of pay equity, the implementation of fair and legal labor practices, and establishing wages that closely match the current living wage benchmarks, it is evident that these dedicated professionals deserve even more recognition and support. “From the very beginning, I always prioritized paying our exceptional team far higher than what anyone else in our industry offered, and I was the first and only organization in Madison to hire employees directly rather than utilizing independent contractors. I always aimed to pay more, continually striving to reach the highest possible wages for our employees so they could truly thrive, all while ensuring that we maintained an active, successful, and thriving company,” says MNC Founder and Owner, Michelle Ellinger Linley. “With the families utilizing our placement service and hiring their NCS privately as valued household employees, they are playing a crucial role in holding our industry to a higher standard of pay, and any cost reduction benefits are also passed down to the clients themselves. This truly creates a win-win situation for everyone involved!”
Once Madison Newborn Care has successfully placed a knowledgeable Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) with a family, the handoff process is considered complete. At this stage, the family and the NCS collaborate closely to determine the specific contract terms, which may include details such as pay rates, contract length, mutual expectations, and scheduling requirements, among other essential factors. While it is always possible to reach out to us for a conversation if something isn’t working out as planned, or if you need any additional assistance during this time, it is important to note that you will primarily be working one-on-one with that dedicated NCS. This focused interaction fosters a solid rapport, allowing for the development of trust and mutual respect. Isn’t that exactly what we all hope for in someone who is entrusted to support our family during such a delicate and vulnerable newborn period?
We have observed that families who choose to hire caregivers through our comprehensive placement process experience significantly greater success with reliability and dedication. This valuable support not only saves you time and money but also preserves your precious postpartum energy during a crucial period. In simple terms, these are not individuals who are going to "flake out" on your family when you need them the most.
